About the Role
OpenLoop is looking for
a Senior Employment Counsel to join our team remotely or at HQ
in Des Moines, IA. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all
employment law matters across OpenLoop. You will serve as the primary legal
advisor on issues involving employment compliance, workforce policies, labor
regulations, employee relations, and risk mitigation. This role will collaborate
closely with HR, Operations, Clinical Leadership, and Executive teams to support
OpenLoop’s fast-growing telehealth workforce and ensure compliance across
multiple states. Given our clinical and virtual care environment, prior
experience supporting healthcare organizations, provider groups, or telehealth
operations is required.
What You'll Do
- Advise on federal and state employment laws, including wage and hour,
leave management, worker classification, and multi-state employment
compliance.
- Draft, review, and update employment agreements,
independent contractor agreements, handbook policies, and organizational
procedures.
- Partner with HR and leadership to manage employee
relations matters, including performance management, investigations, and
disciplinary actions.
- Provide counsel on issues related to
clinical workforce staffing, credentialing, telehealth compliance, and provider
employment/contract structures.
- Develop and deliver training
to HR and management teams on employment law topics, compliance updates, and
best practices.
- Support M&A, corporate initiatives, and
organizational changes by advising on employment-related implications and
integration planning.
- Manage outside counsel as needed for
litigation, specialized matters, or state-specific employment
issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school; active license to
practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 8+ years of employment
law experience, including direct experience advising healthcare organizations,
provider groups, hospital systems, or telehealth companies.
- Strong
understanding of federal and state employment statutes, including FLSA, FMLA,
ADA, Title VII, and state labor laws.
- Proven experience supporting
HR teams and advising on employee relations, investigations, and workforce
compliance.
- Exceptional drafting, communication, and
problem-solving skills with the ability to provide clear, practical
guidance.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable
operating in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment.
